With all of the disarray that has been happening in America recently, I think it is an important time to stress how a society without Christ leads to chaos and unrest. There have been over 400 studies done revealing that lack of religion leads to a greater risk for mental disorders such as depression and anxiety. So why are people turning away from religion so rapidly in 2020? The answer is simple: Sin.
Without an organized religion people are free to do whatever they please without any moral repercussions. They are allowed to set their own moral boundaries causing confusion and chaos to society as a whole. Humans are inherently good, however through our earthly wants and desires it is easy for the human mind to become skewed and our desires to become disordered. This is why we as Christians have a duty to evangelize and spread the gospel even though people may not want to hear it. This is especially true with young adults as they are at an all time high for turning away from the faith to practice atheism and agnosticism.
So why are young people turning away from religion and choosing to live in a Godless society? The short answer was sin, but what does that really entail? Well the issue is not entirely young people, but rather previous generations have accepted smaller amounts of sinful activity and since young people love to push the boundaries, the amount of acceptable activity has become greater over the past few decades. For example, in the 1920s, young women pushed the boundaries through their clothing. The flapper dress was seen as extremely scandalous as hit it right at the knees, something uncommon for the times. However, by 1950 knee length dresses were the normality. This example shows how pushing the boundaries leads to things such as the mini skirt which emerged in the 60s and has been socially acceptable ever since. Since young people grew up in a world that accepted loose moral boundaries, they have pushed have become so extreme the world is now in shambles.
Depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses are at an all time high. People are rioting in cities all across America because of the injustices being performed towards African American citizens. Sexual promiscuity has become normalized. Political parties have divided the nation; each seeing the other as evil and cruel. Abortion has become promoted as womenhaving the so called right to “choose” when they want to start a family and can dispose of a child like a bruised piece of fruit. All of these evils have become socially acceptable as generations continue to push boundaries that have been set by the people before them.
So what can we do to help fix this issue? First, we as a society need to acknowledge we are flawed. Secondly, we must convince others to unharden their hearts and have a positive discussion on how their actions and beliefs are disoriented. We need to have a counter-revolution where we reclaim ordered ideas of modesty, lifestyles, and practices and put them back into use. People believe because the world has changed so much these beliefs are not practical in a modern society. However, with hard work and a commitment to change we could restore society to something great.
